Profitably operate in Nova Scotia with high heating and electricity costs.
Address the use of bunker oil to serve heating requirements as bunker oil is expensive, insecure and dirty.
Minas Energy identified and evaluated a number of solutions, and recommended that CKF convert its facilities to use compressed natural gas delivered via truck, as no pipelines are near CKF's facility in Nova Scotia.
CKF's core competency is manufacturing moulded pulp and foam products, not in energy, so the focus was implementing the energy solution without distraction to the business. Minas Energy worked with CKF to conduct a request-for-proposals process for supply of compressed natural gas. Minas Energy led the contract negotiations that resulted in a gas distribution company covering the compressed natural gas supply assets and associated logistics.
CKF's annual heating costs have been reduced, and the company has a cleaner and more secure heating fuel.
